About This Event

On January 13, 2020, the U.S. Department of the Treasury released final regulations implementing the updates to the foreign investment review process of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) contained in the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018. These regulations took effect on Feb 13, 2020, significantly increasing the CFIUS’ influence over national security reviews of investments. The Act focuses specifically on companies with advanced technologies and access to sensitive data.

What does this mean for businesses and investors in the life sciences and biotech sectors? What risks will need to be mitigated? What investments will have increased scrutiny under CFIUS?

In this two-episode InnoTalk Event, we are pleased to invite Judith Allison Lee, Co-Chair at the International Trade Regulation and Compliance Practice Group and Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and Carl Valenstein, Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Our two special guests will address the topic in two different angles, covering perspectives from both startup companies and international investors in the life science industry. Our webinar series will guide you through the details of FIRRMA as well as the intention of the rules, how they are impacting investors and companies, and what to expect in the future.

*We highly recommend you attend both episodes for a full understanding of the CFIUS and trade controls issues in life science.
